Working predominantly in clay, Villeneau's approach is intuitive and process-led, trusting in the material to produce visceral work which conjures ideas of the body. The organic forms and surface textures are also suggestive of landscape, fossilised remains or relics-familiar yet strange, uncomfortable and intriguing.
Villeneau uses a variety of making processes such as coiling, extruding and pinching and produces texture through impressed patterns in the clay and glazes which bubble and burst in firing to produce volcanic surfaces. Increasingly she incorporates found objects or other materials within the ceramic sculptures.
Villeneau is a selected member of the Craft Potters Association and The Royal Society of Sculptors.
