Usually beginning with a conversation, the objects Garry Barker makes come from drawings and are usually made in order for him to understand what it is he's trying to visualise. Making objects both realises for him what is arriving in a drawing and provides him with something concrete to draw from.

Each object is part of a growing allegorical story that sometimes includes drawings, animations, poetry, lectures, printmaking, textile design or walks.
