'The Signals of Saint Semaphore' 12 sculptures, average height 75 cms, West Front
My sculptures of an imaginary saint have been deliberately placed high up along the inside wall of the West Front to make them difficult to see. Holding a halo in each hand and waving his arms Saint Semaphore conveys his message with a signalling system designed to communicate across great distances.
'Sema' is derived from the Greek for sign, and 'phore' means bearer - so the Bearer of Signs attempts to communicate his simple message to those who can decipher his code. The Signals of Saint Semaphore can be deciphered with the help of the alphabet sheet provided.
