The Goddess WADJEYT
The cult of the Goddess Wadjeyt was thought to originate in the town of Buto the capital of Lower Egypt in prehistoric times. Snakes were a constant peril in Egypt. She was depicted as a cobra (uraeus) either singly as part of the diadem on the head of the pharaoh twined around a papyrus or in rows often placed above doors along the tops of walls. Its protective attributes were recognized and it was identified as the EYE Of RA sometimes shown protecting his solar disc by spitting fire and venom.
