Still Life with Knife: This work been prompted by the title of the exhibition,
Outside In. I felt that still life was the most indoor art form I could imagine
and that when considering still life the most influential was the cubist period;
in that it was used by Braque and Picasso, to explore new concepts of space.
The chest of drawers and the knife are elements from a Picasso I saw many years
ago but have been unable to retrace. The jug and flowers are from another Picasso
painting so that the work is an assemblage of my response to the work of Picasso
rather than a copy. I enjoyed the process of producing the sculptural work based
on a two dimensional means of depicting three dimensions. Inside American Series:
Set of Wall based sculptures 1. Crossing Delaware: This is one of a series of
works produced from a visit to the USA. Based on a journey from Baltimore to
Ocean City on the Atlantic Coast. 3. Truck Stop Indiana; Driving on the Interstate
Highway, averaging 700 miles a day across a low, undulating landscape; enormous
signs announcing roadside truck stops erected 35 miles before their exit. These
signs were often several times bigger than the truck stop they were advertising
