Most current and recent discussion of evolution reduce it from the physical law it is, down to the mere theory of an individual scientist. How should an artist cite the law of evolution then, and relate it practically to an occidental lack of ablution, reverence and sobriety without offending monotheistic worshippers holding firm to biblical chronicles ? Why not ask what higher natures more select, than the motion of a star holding planets and satellites of these in still constant eternity of antimatter?'

Proposal The Moondial Study offered for a debut exhibition would sit on a window plinth in available light. It is a small double-sided picture frame with more than one twist:

1. Displaying two filtered photographic prints of a partial solar eclipse behind glass.

2. Supporting a section of treated frame molding as a platform for a rusty can of Miller Light lager and Baoding ball in a piece of motor vehicle suspension.

3. Rotation the prints on their inner frame's axis at the careful and skilled touch of hands intent on animating the central stillness.

The study is intended to support the eventual design, build and placing of life size Moondials of eight to nine sides. These could be big enough to walk into and be based on more prints from the original stills photography of the eclipse and the rotating frame seen here. Ideas anyone has for realizing a Moondial most welcome. Ideally, it would be near water, far from any artificial light sources and be accessed during the hours of moonlit darkness.
