16. George Hainsworth was educated at the Leeds College of Art and the Slade School of Art in London. The teaching at the Leeds College of Art was strongly influenced by European philosophy, particularly by the Bauhaus with its didactic agenda: to influence society through the arts. The exposure to the radical pan-European vision continues to resonate through Hainsworth's work. His creative journey has been long and circuitous. His current body of work which began more than a decade ago, attempts to access and embrace traditions from both during and prior to the 2Oth century . Painting and Sculpture have been his prime forms of expression throughout his career, with Drawing as a constant autonomous and influential activity . It would be correct to say that his work, though strongly concerned with abstract composition and formal engagement, is at all times figurative in the broadest understanding of that term.
