List of Works:
Thirteen Moons This title refers to the Cherokee way of depicting the year through the passing of the moons and their connection with the food and planting cycle: Bone Moon, Corn in Tassel Moon, Flower Moon, are some examples. This way of seeing the year has a sense of clarity which ours, based on long dead Roman Emperors and the like seems to lack. (I have been reading Charles Frasier's 'Thirteen Moons' so I should give him a mention). This is the first real outing for this exhibition by the group and I should thank Kala Sangam and Ajit Singh in particular for allowing us to have the use of their beautiful space. The intention was for the group to produce work relating to the thirteen phases of the year in their chosen media but relating to our own culture and concerns. Some members have produced work which relates to a more urban or political yearly cycle. Things which have significance to our culture and the here and now. Work will be made in each exhibitors usual medium and sizes will vary from floor based work to perhaps small hand sized. We are a group of sculptors, community artists and video artists, based in the Yorkshire region who come together to mount exhibitions, promote our work and support each other. The group was originally set up over twenty years ago. This exhibition includes a diverse range of work from assemblages, sculptures and wall based drawings, paintings and prints. Recent Exhibitions have been at Durham Cathedral 2008, Chelsea Gallery, London 2009, Trinity Church, Leeds, 2009. We have a web site www.yorkshiresculptorsgroup.org
which documents most of our exhibitions and includes a list of current members. We have about 25 members, all currently engaged in producing work. If you are interested in the work of any member or wish to make a puchase, contact can be made via the web site. If you wish to know more about the group or join us please feel free to get in touch.
