Statement My figurative work is based upon the creation of images which reflect shared emotional and physical human reactions to the world around us. Whilst in some ways this may seem a very traditional approach I have found I particularly like working with mask type images when working on a large scale as I feel I become part of the form and ‘hide within’ the structures I create. The sense this gives me is the same feeling I have of being within my own body and ‘looking out’. In Memoriam This piece was created to represent the sense of trauma which must be experienced by women during wartime when their menfolk are absent, injured or lost. They are left with the task of carrying on with the routine activities of home and family life when the whole world around them must appear to have gone mad. Hush This piece of work has been created to reflect the innocence and newness of the young baby and the sense of protection given by the parent. This seems particularly relevant when placed between the Millennium Window which heralds the beginning of the new century and the tomb behind. Here the future confronts the past.
