Statement Apart from the ancient beauty of Durham Cathedral, the memorial to the miners and the importance of coal in the history of the area has captured my attention for one of my pieces in this exhibition - the other is concerned with equality. Mining Diptych, made from 100% recycled materials and found objects, reflects the plight of the miners and their families after the decision to close the mines and instead of cleaning production methods import more crude oil. Sir S Lubber de Guillion, Knight of the Repro Table, made from 10% recycled materials, came about whilst reflecting on the reasons or not to create new Knights and Lords in the 21st century and whether the second chamber should now have a different, more egalitarian name and not perpetuate the class divide. My concerns are about sustainability, human equality and animal rights. My current work reflects these concerns.
