Since 1200 the Greenman image has symbolized man’s relationship with nature and Gerrit is very much intrigued by this image in his forever changing form. 2 Sacred Bull A study of convex and concave forms. 3 In Meditation Reflecting a fascination with monastic life.
Gerrit has been working in stone for over fifteen years. His primary influence is that of church art: the wonderful carvings on the inside and outside of Cathedrals. The medieval flavour of much of his work is often taken over by a flight into the modern or more ancient. Gerrit has work in collections in America, Ireland, England and Holland. He has work on permanent exhibition at the Zillah Bell Gallery in Thirsk.
