I
enjoy the exploration of form, movement, and space. The changing relationships
and tensions between joined and separate structures fascinates me and I freely
explore these initially through a range of small clay maquettes. I aim to visually
create a minimal aesthetic statement, analysing the relevance and strength of
all the components of my work, discarding any forms that detract attention from
my chosen focus. My structures are usually derived from initial ideas developed
from seen imagery. These sculptures at Beverley developed on my return from
a holiday to Formentera where I became fascinated with the way the indigenous
lizards scuttled across and curved around any solid mass they encountered. I
studied at Ripon & York St John's College (BA Hons Art & Design), Bretton Hall
College (PGCE Art & Design) and Leeds University (MA History & Theory of Sculpture
Studies). In 1985 I was a founder member of Yorkshire Sculptors Group and am
a past Chairman and Secretary. Examples of my work are in private collections
in Australia, Norway, Canada, England and America.
