Hilary Burt
Landscape, movement and light are the inspiration for my work. I use all manner of materials in trying to achieve the effect I am after. I am deeply concerned about all environmental issues, in particular pollution, waste and loss of habitat. I use recycled and natural materials where possible and am interested in the notion of spirit guardians - the horse is my spirit guardian. My initial art training was at the Byam Shaw School of Art, Leeds (BA Hons Fine Art), where I studied under (amongst many) Peter Hibbard, a former assistant to Henry Moore. As a mature student I studied English and three dimensional studies at the College of Ripon and York St John. My special study was Marino Marini and Dame Elisabeth Frink. I have exhibited widely in Yorkshire and have produced work to commission, including 'Monks and Knight' for English Heritage. I regularly run workshops at York City Art gallery, for art societies and in schools.
